Wilber “Buddy” Butler, 86, of Charleston, passed away at his home on Sunday, June 6, 2021, with his wife and caregivers by his side.

Born in Tampa, Fla., Buddy has been a resident of Charleston for 21 years.

Buddy retired from Ironworkers Local 97 after 47 years.

He was known by friends and family to be hard-working, knowledgeable, rock-solid, dependable and true.

His first love was the Lord. He loved reading his Bible and he loved his church, Henegar Baptist Church of Cleveland.

He is survived by his loving wife of 46 years, Wanda Sue Butler; sister, Dolly Fulford of Tampa, Fla.; sister-in-law, Betty Boruff of Cleveland; brother, Dewy Farmer of Arkansas; granddaughter, Heather Hester of Pennsylvania; nephews: Bennie (Marcie) Collins, and Danny Collins of Tampa, Fla.; niece, Donna (Dennis) Anderson of Charleston; and several other nieces and nephews.

A Celebration of Life will be held today, June 9, 2021, at 3 p.m. at Companion Funeral and Cremation Service in Cleveland.

Friends will be received from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m.

Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens, with Bennie Collins giving the eulogy and family members and friends serving as pallbearers.

The family thanks Kindred Hospice of Cleveland for its several months of excellent care; and a special thanks to Nicole Strange, CNA, for her extraordinary personal care.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that you make donations to St Jude Children Children’s Research Hospital, a favorite charity of Buddy and Sue.
