THIS WEEK IN HISTORY — 1956 — MOTHER’S DAY PHONE CALLS DOUBLE HERE: Long distance telephone circuits were tied up for hours in Cleveland on Sunday and the “trouble” was attributed to mothers all over the county. Mrs. W.T. Johnston, chief operator for Southern Bell Telephone Co. here reported that long distance calls doubled. Approximately 1,000 long distance telephone calls were recorded at the Cleveland telephone office, Mrs. Johnston said. Five hundred calls are the maximum for a regular Sunday.
