Thelma Lea Burger Briggs


Thelma Lea Burger Briggs, 84, of Cleveland, passed away on Sunday, May 8, 2022, at the home of her daughter and son-in-law, Sheila and Ronnie Graig.

She was born in Cleveland, Nov. 19, 1937, to the late Robert and Perilee Holt Burger. She was a longtime member of the Spring Place Church of God of Prophecy, and loved to ride motorcycles, canning, and quilting. She was also a die-hard Atlanta Braves fan.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her loving husband, James Earl Briggs; brother and sister-in-law, Bill and Wanda Burger; and brothers-in-law, David Pritchett, Lyndon Fain and Leon Kyle.

Thelma leaves behind to cherish her memory, her loving daughter, Sheila Briggs Graig (Ronnie), sisters, Drusilla Fain, Emma Pritchett, Leyvonne Kyle, Mary Sue Hammontree (Lester) and Martha Lawson (Bill); brother, Ray Burger (Kay); and a very dear friend and love, O’Dell Crisp, her motorcycle buddy. They traveled through 48 states together.

She is also survived by several nieces; nephews; great-nieces and great-nephews; five great-great-nephews; and several little church buddies.

A Remembrance of Life service will be held on Wednesday, May 11, 2022, at noon, at Jim Rush Funeral and Cremation Services, Wildwood Avenue Chapel, with the Rev. Wade Patterson, the Rev. Ron Wright and the Rev. Marvin Eskew officiating. Phyllis Wright will read a poem in memory of Thelma.

The interment will follow at Hilcrest Memorial Gardens, with Adam, Preston and Mitch Lawson, and Tim, Nate and Nick Watson serving as casket bearers. Honorary casket bearers will be Blake Morrow, Danny Hammontree, William Miolen and Terry Fain.

The family will receive friends on Wednesday, from 9 a.m. until noon, at the funeral home.
