Posted

Shirley McAmis, 67, a lifelong resident of Cleveland, went home to be with her Heavenly Father on Wednesday, March 29, 2023, in a Chattanooga hospital.

She was the daughter of the late Denn Sanders and Peggy Shoemaker Sanders. Her brothers, Raymond Sanders and Larry Sanders also preceded her in death, along with a special aunt, Linda Lane; and cousin, Steven Lane.

Prior to her illness, Shirley had been a longtime pharmacy technician at Kmart and then at CVS. She enjoyed scrapbooking, helping to direct weddings, ceramics and riding motorcycles with her husband, with whom she had traveled throughout the United States and Canada. The motorcycle group they were a part of regularly raised money for St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. Shirley had been a member of Mount Olive Church of God for most of her life where she was very active in various church ministries and events, including the Christmas parade.

She is survived by her loving husband, Tim McAmis; one son, Shane McAmis and his wife, Amanda, all of Cleveland; one brother, Kenneth Sanders of Chickamauga, Georgia; sister-in-law, Paula Sue McAmis Flemming of Cleveland; special cousin, Mary Broick of Chattanooga; special friend, Ellen Wilkerson of Mississippi; special nephew, Gregory Sanders and his wife, Cheyenne, and their children, Alayna, Hayden, Hannah and Laianna Shirley Rae; and many more nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews and friends.

A Remembrance of Life service will be conducted at 7 p.m. on Monday, April 3, 2023, at Mount Olive Church of God with Pastors Gary Sears and James Sears officiating.

A graveside service and interment will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Tuesday morning in Mount Olive Cemetery with Tim McAmis, Shane McAmis, Gregory Sanders, Eddie Lane, Bud Swallows and Tony Brown serving as pallbearers.

The family will receive friends from 4 to 7 p.m. on Monday at the church.

Jim Rush Funeral and Cremation Services, North Ocoee Chapel, is in charge of arrangements.
