Shirley Hicks

Shirley Hicks, 82, a resident of Cleveland, passed away on Friday, May 19, 2023, in a local hospital.

She was born in Strawberry Plains, and she was the daughter of the late Emma Bunch Crisp and Arlind Crisp. Her husband, the Rev. James Hicks; her sister, Dessie Howard; her husband, David; and her brother-in-law, Bearl Burger, also preceded her in death.

She was a homemaker. She was also a pastor's wife, and she enjoyed teaching Sunday school. She loved people and she was loved by everyone who knew her. She was a member of the Henegar Baptist Church.

Survivors include her daughter, Pamela Hicks of Cleveland; son, Bryan Hicks of Cleveland; sister, Arlene Burger of Cleveland; brothers, David Crisp (Brenda) of Cleveland, Dan Crisp (Kathy) of Chattanooga, and Brent Crisp (Maryellen) of Hercules, California; and several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.

The Remembrance of Life service will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Thursday, May 25, 2023, at Jim Rush Funeral and Cremation Services, North Ocoee Chapel, with the Rev. Bill Ellis officiating.

Interment will follow in the Sunset Memorial Gardens with David Crisp, Steve Ellis, Dennis Ellis, Jonathan Burger, Dustin Hicks and Mickey Shamblin serving as casket bearers.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday at funeral home.
