Peggy Jo Black Lindsey

Peggy Jo Black Lindsey, born on Feb. 25, 1929, in Chattanooga, passed away on Wednesday, Jan. 4, 2023, in a local hospital.

She attended East Side Middle School, Chattanooga City High School, and worked in a textile factory from circa 1951 until marriage to George W. Lindsey on Dec. 31, 1953, then was a homemaker as long as her health permitted. In previous years, she sang in a gospel quartet, and had also been a teacher in Sunday school for younger children. Peggy loved her family and will forever be remembered for her love for cats.

She was preceded in death by her father, Grover Nelson Black Sr.; her mother, Sarah Marie Moorman; infant sister, Linda Fay Black; her husband, George Lindsey; and brother, Grover Nelson Black.

She is survived by her brother, Rhea Moorman Black; nephew, Billy Rhea Black; niece, Susan Black; and several cousins.

A graveside service for Peggy was held at Hopewell Baptist Church Cemetery on Tuesday, Jan. 10, 2023, at 2:30 p.m.
