Nettie Mae Kugler, 81, of Athens, passed away on Friday, July 29, 2022, at her home, peacefully in her sleep.
She had been dealing with a number of complicated health issues that were a constant daily struggle but found peace in the end. She was the steadfast, unshakable rock of her family. She is now reunited with her husband, Billy Wayne, (June 27, 2015); oldest son, Jimmy, (Nov. 13, 2015); and the many others who have gone before us. She is welcomed into the loving arms of Jesus, our Lord and Savior.
She was born in Riceville on Sept. 6, 1940, and was preceded in death by her parents, Ernest and Willie May (Bottoms) Walker; siblings, Josephine, Henrietta, Bud and Betty.
Nettie was a longtime Athens resident who married Billy Wayne Kugler, of Cordova, Alabama, on Jan. 18, 1958, and together they raised four sons. They set an example for marriage and commitment that has had a lasting impact on all of those who knew them. Nettie was a loving wife, wonderful mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.
Survivors include her three children and their families, Larry and wife, Gail, of Cleveland, John and wife, Amy, of Cleveland, and Michael of Athens; grandchildren, Justin Kugler, Dusty and Brittney Chapman, Joseph Kugler, Christopher and Katie Rae Kugler, Brianna Kugler, Ashlee Kugler and Lauren Kugler; great-grandchildren, Aubrey Kugler, Jaxon Chapman, Braylyn Harmon, Allie Grace Chapman, Kai Kugler, Eli Kugler and Brady Kugler; and siblings, Marie Walker, Ernest Walker Jr., Ray Walker and James Walker.
The immediate family will receive family and friends from 1 to 2 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 2, 2022, at Ziegler Funeral Home of Athens, with a graveside service to follow at 2:30 p.m. at McMinn Memory Gardens.
