Nanalee Roark Brooks, 87, of Georgetown, went to be with Jesus on Tuesday, May 18, 2021, at her home following a short illness.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Burke Roark and Maggie (Smith) Roark; and brother, Edgar Roark.
She was a graduate of Birchwood High School, class of ’52. After earning a secretarial degree from Edmonson School of Business, she worked at Title Guaranty Company. Then, she spent many years as an executive secretary at Fleetwood Coffee Company.
After enjoying staying home full-time for several years, she found her dream job at Meadowview School and later retired from Snow Hill Elementary after 17 years of service. She then lived happily at the farm she shared with her devoted husband, Bill Brooks.
Nana, as she is affectionately known, was an avid reader of the Bible and a prayer warrior. She was a Sunday school teacher, pianist, and church youth group music director for many years at New Union Baptist Church where she was a member.
Always known for her kindness and generosity, she will be remembered for her beautiful, smiling face and loving heart. She always reached out to others to show how much she cared about them. Family gatherings often included widowed friends she thought of as family.
As a mother and grandmother, she loved with all of her heart. Always a good listener and full of loving curiosity, she made connecting deeply feel easy. There were many days spent playing on the farm with grandchildren, taking walks and wagon rides and also adventures like camping, paddle-boating, and attending plays. Her great-grandchildren adored her fun and playfulness.
She is survived by her husband of 69 years, Bill Brooks; daughter, Ann Brooks (Ronnie) Bottoms; and son, Steve (Arlene) Brooks; four grandchildren: Christy Bottoms (Patrick) Wolf, Jenny (Sam) Johnson, Tyler Brooks and Alyson Brooks; five great-grandchildren: Lila and Lucy Johnson, Jack and Asa Wolf and Sawyer Whitt; brother-in-law, Lloyd Demar (Susan) Brooks; sister-in-law, Jane Brooks; nieces, nephews and a host of friends she cherished very much.
The Remembrance of Life Sservice will be conducted on Sunday, May 23, 2021, at 1 p.m. at the Jim Rush Funeral and Cremation Services, North Ocoee Chapel, with the Rev. Donnie Jenkins and the Rev. Patrick Wooden officiating.
Interment will follow in the Birchwood Baptist Church Cemetery, with Tyler Brooks, Patrick Wolf, Sam Johnson, Mark Fleming, Jeremy Roark and Chris Jenkins serving as casket bearers.
The family will receive friends from 4 until 6 p.m. on Saturday at the funeral home.
