Mavis Marie Smith

Mavis Marie Smith, 93, gained her heavenly wings on Monday, Dec. 26, 2022, at her residence, surrounded by her family.

She was born on March 13, 1929, to the late Johnnie Murray Passman and Leavena Wales Passman in Franklinton, Louisiana. Mavis was a member of North Cleveland Church of God for more than 80 years, a member of Unity Sunday School Class and many other ministries in her church. She loved spending time with her family, reading, sewing and cooking.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Fred “Smitty” Smith; and twin brother, Flavius Passman.

She is survived by her son, David R (Ellen) Smith; daughters, Sharon Smith and June (David) Montgomery; siblings, Evelyn Loveday and Johnny (Sue Ann) Passman; sister-in-law, Claire Passman; grandchildren, Traci (Rusty) Branham, Russell (Danielle) Montgomery, Eric (Shannon) Smith, Tyler (Cait) Smith, Ray Henderson and Chris (Daria) Bankston; seven great-grandchildren; and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at noon on Friday, Dec. 30, 2022, in the Companion Funeral Home chapel with G.M. Streun officiating.

Burial will be held at Fort Hill Cemetery.

Prior to the service, the family will receive friends from 11 a.m. to noon on Friday at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Hospice of Chattanooga/Cleveland office.
