Mary Edith Lucille Patterson


Mary Edith Lucille Patterson, 89, of Pearisburg, Va., went home to be with her Lord, Sunday, Jan. 19, 2020, at Carilion Giles Memorial Hospital.  

She was born June 17, 1930, in Bradley County, the daughter of the late David McConnell and Elsie Freeman Stephenson.

She loved the Lord and testified His love to everyone she met. Her passion was for her family, especially her grandchildren, to be saved and to have a personal relationship with the Lord. She didn’t leave a job undone and was praying to the Lord she loved and served when she passed into His care. 

Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Arthur Patterson; her daughters and sons-in-law: Loretta and Kenneth Saunders, Linda and Larry Hardy, and Stephanie Patterson; and her granddaughter, Robin Nestor.

Left to cherish her memory are her son and daughter-in-law, Stephen and Julie Patterson; her daughters and sons-in-law: Sandra and Bill Bisker, and Diane and Loyd Breedlove; 20 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; and many great-great-grandchildren; her brother and sister-in-law, Eli Grafton (“Buddy”) and Norma  Stephenson; and multiple nieces and nephews.

The funeral will be held Thursday, Jan. 23, 2020, at 2 p.m. at A. Vest and Sons Funeral Home Chapel, White Gate, with Bro. Jeff Peters officiating. Burial will follow in the Patterson Cemetery.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Wednesday, from 5 until 7 p.m.
