Lillie Marie Williams Kelley

Posted

Lillie Marie Williams Kelley, 96, of Dalton, Georgia, and formerly of Cohutta, Georgia, and Bradley County, passed away on Saturday, Nov. 19, 2022, at Wood Dale Health and Rehabilitation Center.

She was born in 1926, in Bradley County, to the late Tom Williams and Mattie Jordan Williams.

Marie was also preceded in death by her husband, Robert Kelley, with whom she shared 42 years before his passing in 1989; her brother, Ralph Williams; and her infant sister, Ina Jean Williams.

She is survived by her sister, Sue Webb of Dalton, who was a devoted caregiver for Marie for many years; as well as nephews, nieces and cousins.

Marie lived a life of quiet dignity and strong faith, working on her family farm, enjoying the friendship of her neighbors and cherishing the company of her adoring dogs, who followed her every footstep. She excelled in needlework, crafts, gardening and growing house plants, cultivating an impressive collection of old-growth African violets in every imaginable color. She struggled with health issues for the last two decades of her life, but until recently, she read every page of the local newspaper, expressed her opinion on issues of the day and boisterously sang the hymns she loved from her childhood.

A private graveside service will be conducted on Wednesday, Nov. 23, 2022, at Hopewell Baptist Church Cemetery in Cohutta with interment to follow.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Marie’s memory may be made to one’s favorite charity.

Marie’s family wishes to express gratitude and appreciation to the nurses and therapists of Amedisys/North Georgia Home Health, and the medical team and staff of Wood Dale Health and Rehab for their care, compassion, kindness and support. In Marie’s last years, despite her declining health, she forged new friendships, found creative outlets and enjoyed a strong sense of community at Wood Dale.
