Decorated World War II Army veteran Hershel Thomas Hicks passed away on Tuesday, May 10, 2022, just shy of his 99th birthday.
Born in Indiana on May 15, 1923, he was one of eight children.
Hershel was preceded in death by his wife of over 70 years, Mildred Green Hicks, who passed away from a lengthy battle with cancer in 2018.
He worked from his youth with the CCC, Bradley County Road department, Lonas Construction and Bradley County Health Department, as well as Magic Chef.
Hershel and Mildred had three children, Larry Hicks (Shannon), Sandra Hughes (Bill) and Jonny Hicks (Cindy); six grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
A Remembrance of Life service will be held on Monday, May 16, 2022, at 1 p.m. at Jim Rush Funeral and Cremation Services, Wildwood Avenue Chapel.
The interment with military honors will follow at Boanerges Baptist Church Cemetery.
The family will receive friends on Monday from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. at the funeral home.
