Gary Lee Griffin

Gary Lee Griffin, 72, passed away on Saturday, May 7, 2022.

Born May 30, 1949, in Cleveland, he was in the first graduating class of Cleveland High in 1967. Gary was active in the local YMCA. He retired as a lieutenant in Florida state law enforcement and worked 14 years with the Cherokee Council Boy Scouts.

Preceded in death by his father, Benjamin R. Griffin Jr., Gary is survived by his devoted wife of 30-plus years, Janis M. Griffin of Chattanooga; mother, Martha “Lucy” Griffin of Cleveland; four daughters, Ronda Ellison (Jody) of Live Oak, Florida, Dana Johnson (Jason) of St. Augustine, Florida, Leigh Humkey (Chris) of Ringgold, Georgia, and Lori Brown (Harold) of Hixson; six grandchildren, Emily Dann (Robert), Benjamin Humkey (Samantha), Jacob Ellison, Zoe Ellison, and Payton and Taylor Johnson.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, June 25, 2022, at 1 p.m., at Big Springs Baptist Church Chapel, 1415 Hardwick St. SE, in Cleveland, with Pastors Daniel Malone and Tony McClanahan officiating. Music by Jerry Dunlap and Tom Wicks.
