Frankie Juanita Colston Carter Ownby


Frankie Juanita Colston Carter Ownby, 96, of Cleveland and formerly of Crossnore, N.C. and Miami, Fla., passed away on Wednesday, April 13, 2022, at Life Care Center of Cleveland.

She was preceded in death by her first husband, Edward L. (Eddie) Carter; her second husband, Orvil L. Ownby; stepson, Jack Ownby; sisters, Audrey Butler and Virginia (Tidy) O’Rear; and son-in-law, Billy Joe (Bill) Brooks.

She is survived by her children, Lynda (Carter) Brooks of Calhoun, Ga.; Edward L. (Larry) Carter II (Linda Gail) of Wildwood, Fla.; Charles D. Carter (Nancy) of Calhoun, Ga.; Richard N. (Rick) Ownby (Vickie) of Georgetown; stepdaughter, Joyce (Ownby) McCallie (Don Kissel) of Flintstone, Ga.; and several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

She was retired from Southern Bell (BellSouth/AT&T) with 31 years of service. For many years she actively served in mission work with her second husband, Orvil, as members of Constructors for Christ of Ft. Oglethorpe, Ga., and traveled to Kyiv, Ukraine, to build a church in 1997. She was a member of Waterville Baptist Church in Cleveland, and a former member of First Baptist Church of Crossnore, N.C., and West Miami Church of God in Miami, Fla.

The Remembrance of Life service will be conducted on Tuesday, April 19, 2022, at 3 p.m. at the Jim Rush Funeral and Cremation Services, North Ocoee Chapel, with the Rev. Alan Lovelace and the Rev. Joe Brooks officiating.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to Constructors for Christ, c/o Ray Dilbeck, 1114 Cavender Drive SW, Dalton, GA 30720.

The family will receive friends from 1 to 3 p.m. on Tuesday at the funeral home.
