The Rev. Donald T. "Don" Pemberton, 87, a resident of Cullman, Ala., and formerly of Cleveland, passed away on Tuesday afternoon, Aug. 13, 2019, in a Cullman, Ala., healthcare facility.
He was born in Alexander City, Ala., on April 3, 1932. He was the son of the late Paralee Caldwell Pemberton and Emmitt Pemberton.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Dorothy Lucille Pemberton; and his brothers: Bill and Wayne Pemberton.
He was a retired minister with the Church of God. His ministry began in 1951 in Georgia. He pastored churches at Middle Valley; and Jacksonville, Gainesville and Naples, Fla. He served as state secretary-treasurer of Tennessee andsecretary-treasurer/youth Director of West Virginia. He served as state Sunday school and youth director of Florida. He served as vice president for Business and Finance for Lee College, which is now Lee University. He served as administrative assistant in World Missions for the Church of God. He served as director of Department of Business and Records at the Church of God General Offices. He served as director of Publications (Publisher) for the Church of God Publishing House, and he served as state overseer in Arizona, Oklahoma and Alabama.
He was known for his sense of humor and being a jokester. He loved playing golf, but most of all he loved being a mentor to young ministers.
He loved being with his family and friends, but what was most important to him was his relationship with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. While he lived in Cullman, he attended the Church at the Well. He was a charter member of the Westmore Church of God.
Survivors include his wife, Mary Pemberton of Cullman, Ala.; his sons: Dr. Larry Pemberton and his wife, Clynette, of Knoxville, and Rick Pemberton and his wife, Rhonda, of Madison, Ala.; his grandchildren: Valerie Leaverton and her husband, Shawn, Jon Pemberton and his wife, Elizabeth, Grant Pemberton and his wife, Sarah, David Pemberton and Nick Pemberton and his wife, Lanie; his seven great-grandchildren; his brothers: Mike Pemberton and his wife, Jan, of Macon, Ga., and Terry Pemberton and his wife, Barbara, of Washington State; and several nieces and nephews.
The Remembrance of Life service will be conducted today, Aug. 16, 2019, at 2 p.m. at the Westmore Church of God, with Pastor Kelvin Page, the Rev. Tim Burdashaw and the Rev. Jerry Noble officiating.
Interment will follow in the Sunset Memorial Gardens with Pastor Grant Pemberton officiating.
Casket bearers will be Grant, Jon and David Pemberton, Ron Wood, Vince Hungate and Jordan Mosingo.
The family will receive friends from 1 until 2 p.m. today at the church.
