Carl Alvin Poland

Carl Alvin Poland, 83, a resident of Cleveland, crossed the river Jordan to be with his Lord and Savior on Tuesday, May 23, 2023, in a local hospital, surrounded by his loving family.

He was born on April 12, 1940, in Indianapolis, Indiana. He was the son of the late Raybern and Betty Poland of Lizton, Indiana. He was a proud U.S. Navy veteran, stationed in Key West, Florida, on a submarine during the Cuban Missile Crisis from 1958-1962. He was also stationed in multiple other locations during his years of service. He enjoyed woodworking, CB radios, playing the guitar and activities with his grandchildren. He was a member of Thompson Springs Baptist Church.

Carl is survived by his wife of 49 years, Nellie Caywood Poland of Cleveland; son, Brian Neeley and wife, Tonya, of Cleveland; daughter, Ginger Summars and husband, Donnie, of Cleveland; grandchildren, Chelsie Summars of Chattanooga, and Lana Neeley and Jacob Neeley of Cleveland; sister, Helen Warren and husband, Jay, of Pittsboro, Indiana; brothers, Jim Poland and wife, Sandy, of Zionsville, Indiana, Grant Poland and wife, Bev, of Lizton, Indiana, Ed Poland of Lebanon, Indiana, and Donald Poland and wife, Diane, of Lebanon, Indiana; and several nieces and nephews.

A Remembrance of Life service will be held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, May 28, 2023, at Jim Rush Funeral and Cremation Services, North Ocoee Street Chapel, with Pastor Joe White officiating.

The interment will follow at Union Grove Church of Christ in Cleveland. Pallbearers will be Brian Neeley, Tonya Neeley, Lana Neeley, Jacob Neeley, Ginger Summars, Donnie Summars, Chelsie Summars, Ken Poland and Kevin Poland. Honorary pallbearers will be Christopher Poland, Kreig Poland, Doug Warren, Aaron Warren, Michael Rylant, Dustin Poland, Doug Caywood and Tony Caywood.

The family will receive friends from 5 to 8 p.m. on Saturday at the funeral home.
