Posted

Billie Ruth Sherlin, 91, of Cleveland, passed from this life to her heavenly home on Saturday, Jan. 8, 2022.

She was born in Ooltewah, and she was the daughter of the late Sarah Fairbanks Combs and Elisha Combs. Her husband, Herbert W. Sherlin; and brothers: Leon Combs, Bobby Combs and Lewis Combs, preceded her in death.

She was a homemaker and she worked with her husband at their grocery store, "Sherlin's Grocery" in McDonald. She loved her family and taught them about the Lord and lifted their spirits. Most of all, she loved her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ! She was a member of the Church of God where she taught youth and senior adults in Sunday school for many years.

Survivors include her daughter, Tammie Mauldin (Dr. Walt Mauldin); sons: Wayne Sherlin (Donna), Nathan Sherlin (Denise) all of Cleveland; grandchildren: Eric Sherlin (Robin), Daniel Sherlin (Heather), Dustin Sherlin (Melissa), Teena Guffey (Mark), Kylee Clukey (Kyle), Andrew Sherlin (Kaytlin), Shanda Johnson (Paul), Joel Scoggins (Khristina), Jeremy Mauldin (Nikki), and Ryan Mauldin (Rebekah); 26 great-grandchildren; sister, Louise Johnson (Bob) of McDonald; brother, Kenneth Combs of Ooltewah; Joyce Mauldin Jones, a lifelong friend she attended school with at Bradley High and worked with her at F.W. Woolworth's; and several nieces and nephews.

The Remembrance of Life graveside service and interment will be held privately for the family at Sunset Memorial Gardens with Dr. Walt Mauldin and the Rev. Joel Scoggins officiating. Riley Harris, Will Plemons, Kyle Clukey, Andrew Sherlin, Joel Scoggins, Lane Harris, Eric Sherlin, Daniel Sherlin, Dustin Sherlin and Paul Johnson will serve as casket bearers.

Due to COVID-19 concerns, a celebration memorial service will be conducted at a later time for family and friends.

The family requests, in lieu of flowers, memorials be made to the Smoky Mountain Children's Home by mailing a check to 449 McCarn Circle, Sevierville, TN 37862 or by going to smch.org.

The Jim Rush Funeral and Cremation Services, North Ocoee Chapel, has charge of the arrangements.
