I took my computer to Staples and it’s running, but I have to get it programmed again. So I hope the next column will be from mine. Hope – a leap of faith Hope. It’s a joyous word, a victorious word, and a satisfying word of assurance and strength. Hope, I read, means to “leap up in expectation.” Hope differs from desire or wish in that it implies some expectation of obtaining the good desired or the possibility of possessing it. Hope always gives pleasure or joy, whereas wish and desire may produce or be accompanied with pain and anxiety. (The hypocrites’ hope shall perish, says Job 8:13.) Hope is confidence in a future event, well-founded expectation of good, as a hope founded on God’s gracious promises in the scriptural sense (Hebrews 1:1; Joel 3:16), Confidence and trust is the certainty of hope, grounded on evidence in the Word (Psalm 42:5). But how do we obtain hope? (Romans 5:5: And hope maketh not ashamed, because the love of God is shed abroad in our hearts by the Holy Ghost which is given unto us.) Hope comes directly through our relationship with God. How do we develop that relationship? Of course, through prayer and reading of His Word. more
