The community is invited to explore Southern Adventist University’s new exhibit “From Script to Scripture: The History of the Bible.” Open to the public beginning Jan. 15, the exhibit will feature more than 80 books and works of art, including a leaf from the first Bible ever printed in North America and a Breeches Bible that was brought over on the Mayflower. more

O Little Town of Bethlehem   “O Little Town of Bethlehem,” a well-known Christmas carol, was written by Phillips Brooks, after he visited the “little town of Bethlehem” where Jesus was born. A rector of the Church of the Holy Trinity in Philadelphia, the young man was to become one of the most best-loved American preachers of his time. In December, 1865, he traveled to the Holy Land where he visited many sites connected with Bible stories. On Christmas Eve, he and some friends went to Bethlehem. At one place on the road, they looked down at the town of Bethlehem lying “still in the darkness,” much, he said, as it would have been that first Christmas Eve. He remembered the dark streets and the quietness of the night.  Brooks described their riding out of town to the field where (it was told) the shepherds heard the announcement by the angels about the birth of Jesus.” more
