Dear Heloise: I have long hair and have noticed how it has become the current fashion trend, so I thought I'd share this hint. I discovered that having long hair is nearly as bad as having a shaggy long-haired dog in the family! In the past, when I vacuumed the carpets, the roller got filled with innumerable, annoying, tightly wound strands of strong hair that had to be pulled out.

Dear Annie: My mom's husband molested my sister more than 25 years ago. I was a teenager at the time, and because I lived with my dad, I didn't know all that went on. I do know that the case went to court, thanks to my dad, who always stuck out his neck for us. (I'm glad I wasn't living with my mom, because who knows what would have happened to me; my dad has since died.)

Dear Heloise: I read your column about gifts and wanted to share some ideas I've discovered. I will be 90 in November. I live independently, but no longer drive. While the suggestions so far were good, I've found that I don't need many "things" anymore. I much prefer gift cards. The hair salon is a big one, but grocery and retail stores are also welcome.

Dear Heloise: I read your daily hints in the Lima News, and occasionally, people suggest cutting open toothpaste tubes to get every little bit out of the tube. That can be messy, and really is not necessary. When the toothpaste tube is near the end, all you need is something flat, like the back of a comb. Lay the tube of toothpaste down on a flat surface, take the comb, press down on the bottom of the tube and drag it to the top using pressure. This will push every last drop of the toothpaste out of the tube.

Dear Annie: I was surprised at your response to the letter writer regarding the Rational Recovery book, offered as an alternative to Alcoholics Anonymous. I am not an alcoholic myself, but I have adjacent relationships, including a dear departed uncle who met the love of his life at AA. I have no objection or ax to grind with AA. You are ABSOLUTELY RIGHT that AA and its many offshoots have saved millions of lives.
