Dear Annie: My partner was made disabled last year and is confined to a wheelchair. At the moment, he is in the hospital and has been since last August. When he was in the spinal unit, I only saw him three days a week but would FaceTime every day. Now that he is closer to me, he wants me to be at his bedside seven days a week. … more
Dear Heloise: I wanted to write in regarding losing socks. I bought 10 pairs of identical black socks, which I wear all winter. Since they are all the same, I don't have to do any matching. For other socks, I don't wait until doing laundry to pin them together; I pin them together when I take them off. — Dee Van Dam, via email more

Dear Annie: My dad died of lung cancer a few years ago, and because of that, I abhor smoking in all its forms. The problem is I just discovered my boyfriend, who is a nurse, has been secretly vaping behind my back. I was shocked and upset not so much that he did it (which is bad enough) but that he went through great pains to hide it from me. Plus, he works in the medical field and should know better! …

Dear Heloise: My Whirlpool dryer belt recently broke. Since it's old and older appliances tend to last longer than newer models, I decided to have it fixed. I did some research and discovered it's very easy to open it up and get to the guts of the dryer. Unbelievably, there was a lot of lint and dust built up inside! Prior to repair, I was able to vacuum the entire interior. I would encourage everyone to look into their dryers and see if they need vacuuming. — Bev, Spokane, Washington

Dear Heloise: Thank you for all the useful hints and delicious recipes printed in the San Antonio Express-News. I am 92 years old, and I have a gift I enjoy receiving. I'm not computer-savvy, but my favorite granddaughter in San Antonio, Missy, is a whiz. She is a very busy lady, yet she gives me her time as a gift. She sits with me, and we pick out the items I need by cost, colors, styles and sizes, etc. Then, she does the ordering. The gift is her precious time, and that is truly a wonderful present. — Sue Miller and Missy, via email

Dear Heloise: I'm also writing in regards to the letter from Mary, in Texas, about ladies leaving their purses in cars. I agree that women should carry only small amounts of cash and credit cards when shopping. It's harder for a potential thief to get into your pockets than it is to grab a purse. When locking your purse, laptop or other valuables in the car, put them in the trunk. — Tom Boardman, in Ohio
