Coach Judy Pruett’s team raced out to a 16-0 lead in the first game before Rhea County could score. Walker Valley went on to a convincing 25-5, 25-10, 25-13 victory as the Lady Eagles never got untracked against the dominating Lady Mustangs.
Libero Madison Akins was outstanding as she jumped served and scored the first 16 points for her team in the opening game. Akins had 21 service point with four aces, and eight digs in the match.
Senior Kayla Sewell had 10 service points with five aces, nine kills, two assists and four blocks. Caitlin Geren had 10 assists and three kills, Karis Terpstra had three kills and an ace and Leslie Still had three kills.
The Lady Mustangs will take a 15-6 record (5-2 in District 5AAA) to the Tennessee Tandem tournament in Chattanooga this week. Walker Valley plays Grace at 4 p.m. today at Ooltewah High School, followed by a 5 p.m. match against Knoxville Karns.
Bradley Central and Cleveland are also playing in the Chattanooga tournament.
Thursday’s match at Rhea County was a sweep for Walker Valley with the junior varsity taking a 25-16, 25-12 win. Eryna Walker had nine service points, Bristol Snider added seven service points and Taylor Pruett got six for the junior Lady Mustangs.
