Located at 611 Georgetown Road, Mora’s Antiques and Consignment is owned by Freddy and Nadya Mora. Freddy opened the antique store five years ago. The couple, who recently married, began the consignment portion of the store in June.
“Consignment is really the ‘in’ thing right now,” said Nadya.
To take a stroll in the store, visitors would be surprised at the variety of antique items available such as glass chess sets, gold-plated stemware, Royal typewriter, Singer sewing machine, Shipman Organ Co., organ, perfume bottles, knickknacks, silver-plated jewelry boxes, metal and wooden trunks, kitchen and bedroom furnishings, lamps, collector plates, vinyl records, an old-fashioned oak church pew, books, vintage clothes and dishes. Baseball card collectors can also find valuables from popular baseball athletes such as Nolan Ryan, Mike Piazza, Manny Ramirez, Jose Canseco, Sammy Sosa and Greg Maddux.
“We like to keep merchandise changing in our store. We are constantly looking and shopping for items to sell here. We also try to keep our prices low,” said Nadya.
The Mora’s also give merchandise discounts to customers who trade consignment items.
“We have something in here for everyone. We have toys and baseball cards for the younger kids, retro clothes and furniture which usually sells to the college kids and a variety of items for older adults,” said Nadya.
In a world of technology where nearly everything “new and innovative” can be purchased with a click of a mouse, why the interest in antiques and consignment?
“I’ve always been involved with antiques. No matter what I’ve done in my career, I’ve always resorted back to antiques,” said Freddy, who graduated college with a degree in mechanical engineering.
“I’ve always loved antiques. To me there’s more style and class in these items. Things just aren’t made the way they used to be. It’s a way to keep the past alive,” said Nadya.
Freddy also operates an antique furniture refurbishing business in an upstairs room above his antiques store.
Store hours for Mora’s Antiques and Consigment are Tuesday through Friday from 12 to 6 p.m., and Saturday from 12 to 4 p.m.
