The sounds of freedom will be ringing Saturday morning as His Hands Extended Ministries’ annual Freedom Celebration gets under way at the Peerless Road Church of God of Prophecy Church.

Since 2001, the annual celebration has marked the Fourth of July with patriot music, recitations and prayer for the nation and community.

The special guest for the day will be Lee University’s Voices of Lee with Danny Murray. The 17-member group is characterized by lush vocal harmonies and high-energy patriotic songs as well as gospel favorites.

The Voices of Lee were finalists in NBC “Sing-Off” in December. Among the songs to be performed by the Voices is “God Bless America.”

Also performing for the celebration will be Mercy’s Bridge and Three Days Later Quartet, who will present “The Star Spangled Banner.”

The musical prelude will feature Mary Beth Wickes, Perry Horner, Kevin Mendel and John Miles.

The pledge to the American flag a will be led by Vietnam veteran Steve Orders and his 7-year-old son, Peyton.

Others on the program for the morning will be Cleveland Mayor Tom Rowland and Jerry McNabb, retired Navy chaplain.

The Saturday program begins at 10 a.m. at the church’s gym. The doors will open at 9 a.m.
