Sitha Ann "Granny Bunch" Howser Bunch, 94, of Athens, passed away Thursday, Aug. 14, 2014, at her home.
A native of Meigs County and resident of the Buckhorn Community in McMinn County most of her life, she was a daughter of the late Fate and Ethel Howard Howser. She was also preceded in death by her husband, John Taylor Bunch, on Feb. 18, 1978; daughter, Betty Sue Swafford; three special grandchildren: Jimmy Swafford, Benjamin "Ben" Bunch, and Karen Sue Boyd; son-in-law, James Arnold Swafford; sisters, Sarah Cartwright and Mytie Brogden; and a brother, John Howser.
She was a member of Short Creek Baptist Church. She was an avid flower gardener and loved to travel and camp with her family. She dearly loved her children and grandchildren and was likewise loved and cared for by them.
Survivors include four daughters and four sons-in-law: Jessie Swafford of Athens, Ethel and James L. Copeland of Calhoun, Donna and Arnold McDowell of Gatlinburg, Vicky and Charles "Sonny" Thornburg of Athens and Burch Swafford and wife, Beverly of Athens; two sons and daughters-in-law: Jimmy Carl and Betty Lou Bunch and Steve and Charlene Bunch, all of Athens; 28 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren and great-great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
The funeral will be held at 8 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 16, 2014, in the chapel of Laycock-Hobbs Funeral Home in Athens.
Interment will be at 2 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 17, 2014, in Short Creek Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday, prior to the service at the funeral home.
