Laurie Joan “Joanie” Mitchell Johnson, of Durham, N.C., and formerly of Cleveland, died Thursday, Aug. 7, 2014, at UNC Hospital in Chapel Hill, N.C.
She was the wife of Greg Alan Johnson, application developer at the University of North Carolina. She was the daughter of Eloise Geneva Crone Mitchel of Cleveland and the late Dr. Hays Mitchell.
Before she became disabled, she was a medical technologist at Duke University Hospital.
In addition to her husband and her mother, she is survived by her brother, Alan Hays Mitchell (Sara) of Knoxville; sister, the Rev. Cheryl Mitchell Caruso of Cleveland; nieces: Jessica Mitchell Hobby (Derick) of Chattanooga and Jacqueline Christine Mitchell of Nashville; a nephew, Jeremy Samuel Caruso of Cleveland; and father-in-law, Alan M. Johnson (Dorothy) of Morrisville, N.C.
In addition to her father, she was preceded in death by her brother-in-law, Nick Caruso; and her mother-in-law, Sally Margaret Johnson.
A memorial service was held in the main chapel at UNC Hospital, Chapel Hill, and was officiated by her sister.
City of Oaks Cremation, LLC. had charge of arrangements.
