Bill Presswood, 89, a resident of Cleveland, passed away Sunday evening, Aug. 3, 2014, in a Chattanooga health care facility.
He was the son of the late Arlie Lee McKee Presswood and Frank Presswood. His stepmother, Gertrude Presswood; wife, Retha Kate Gaston Presswood; son, Bill Presswood Jr.; son-in-law, Jim Golden; sisters: Helen Pate, Linda Presswood Suggs, Evelyn Jeanette Lee, Barbara Jean Presswood and a nephew, Chad Presswood, also preceded him in death.
He was a World War II Navy veteran who served as a signalman on the LST 474, a landing ship tank. He owned and operated Presswood Wrecker for more than 30 years.
He was an active member of the LST Association where he and his shipmates would work to restore some of the transport ships. He was a member of the Evening Light Gospel Tabernacle.
Survivors include his daughters: Sheila Willson and her husband, Richard, and Connie Golden, all of Cleveland; grandchildren: Jason Carson Presswood, Tyler Nye Presswood, Lindsey Willson, Jenna Willson, Natalie Golden, Ryan Golden, John Hensley and Steven Hensley; and several great-grandchildren; stepson, Johnny Hensley of Cleveland; sister, Virginia Presswood Davis; brother, Larry Presswood, both of Cleveland; his special friend, Bertha McKee; and several nieces and nephews.
The Remembrance of Life service will be held Wednesday, Aug. 6, 2014, at 4 p.m. from the Wildwood Chapel of Jim Rush Funeral Homes with his brother, Larry Presswood, officiating.
Interment will follow in the Fort Hill Cemetery with family and friends serving as casket bearers. Military honors will be given.
The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 this evening at the funeral home.
