Kenneth “Buzzard” Rutledge, 68, a longtime resident of Cleveland, passed away Tuesday morning, July 29, 2014, at his home surrounded by his family.
He was born in Campaign, Tenn. on Nov. 19, 1945, a son of the late Thomas and Beatrice Rutledge.
He was a honorably discharged veteran of the United States Army, after faithfully serving his country.
He worked for many years in the construction industry and also at Maytag Corporation.
He was of the Church of God faith.
He enjoyed camping, hunting, fishing and going to the local stock car races.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by one sister, Vivian Harding; and six brothers: Harve Rutledge, Willie Rutledge, James Burton Rutledge, Thomas E. Rutledge, Aaron Rutledge and Samuel Rutledge.
He leaves behind to cherish his memory his loving and devoted wife of 51 years, Janice Rutledge; two sons: Michael Rutledge and wife, Erica, and Steve Rutledge and companion, Stephanie Dillard; grandchildren: Kailan, Trent, Callie, Cory and Autum; two great-grandchildren: Rylie and Saige; several other extended family members; and a host of special friends.
A celebration of his life is planned for Friday, Aug. 1, 2014, at 1 p.m. in the chapel of Companion Funeral Home, 2419 Georgetown Road, with the Rev. Benny Watson, David Harding and Larry Watkins officiating.
Interment will follow in the Chattanooga National Cemetery and will conclude with full military honors.
Wayne Watson, Bill Gosnell, Charlie Gosnell, Johnathon Wiseman, Harry Hendricks and Ricky Murray will serve as pallbearers.
The family will receive friends tonight, from 6 to 9, at the funeral home and one hour prior to the service on Friday.
