Samuel “Sammy” E. Burnette Jr., 58, of Calhoun, passed away Thursday, July 24, 2014, in an Athens hospital.
He was a veteran of the United States Army, serving 17 years, which included time in Germany.
He enjoyed hunting, fishing and spending time on his boat.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Samuel E. Burnette Sr. and Edna Lucille Taylor Burnette; and grandson, Clayton Powell.
Survivors include his wife, Patricia Brush Burnette of Calhoun; children: Jessica Burnette, Bryan Hafley and wife, Jessica, and Stephanie Clayton, all of Calhoun and Dustin Hafley and wife, Karen, of Georgia; five grandchildren: Jaxson Powell, Macey Hafley, Braxton Hafley, Austin Hafley and John Hafley; sister, Susan R. Balinger and husband, Jeffrey, of Cleveland; brother, Jeffrey E. Burnette Sr. and wife, Kandi, of Calhoun; and several nieces and nephews, including special nephews, Jeffrey Burnette Jr. and David Burnette, both of Englewood.
The funeral will be held at 5 p.m. today, July 27, 2014, in the chapel of Fike Funeral Home with Pastor Titus Snyder officiating.
The family will receive friends today one hour prior to the service.
