Americorps Vista (Volunteers in Service to America) at Family Promise of Bradley County is holding an educational program to raise awareness in the community about poverty and homelessness. The event will be at the Cleveland YMCA on Tuesday night at 6 p.m.

The United Club will meet Tuesday at 11:30 a.m. at the Golden Corral. The speaker will be Joyce Fox. The meeting is open to the public and anyone is welcome to join. For more information, call Martha Bostic, hostess, at 479-9207.

James County Historical Society will meet Aug. 3 at 2:30 p.m. at Ooltewah Methodist Church. The program on old cars and roads of the Old Jim County era will be presented by Larry Williams with the topic: “The Re-birth of a Model-T Ford.”


— Adults have until Thursday to turn in their reading logs and be entered in the summer Literary Elements drawing. The drawing will be held Aug. 1. Teens can turn in their reading logs between Monday and Aug. 4.

— National Teen Lock-In will be held at the library from 7 p.m. on Aug. 1 until 7 a.m. on Aug. 2. This event is limited to 35 teens and a mandatory parent/teen meeting is required to attend. — TOPS (Take Off Pounds Sensibly) local chapter meets every Monday at Wesleyan United Methodist Church on Peerless Road.
