The Friends of the Greenway elected officers for the newly formed board during a meeting Wednesday.

Missy Reynolds will serve as chairman, Bob Donaghy as vice chairman and Kelly Smith as secretary.

The group will work as a promotion and fundraising branch for the Cleveland/ Bradley County Greenway. Corey Divel will serve as a liaison between Friends of The Greenway and the Greenway Board.

The mission statement for the group is to, “Promote and publicize the Cleveland/Bradley County Greenway to generate awareness, goodwill and support for the enrichment of our community,” according to the new chairman.

“Any monies we raise will immediately go to the Greenway board as the 501(c)3,” Reynolds said.

“Essentially, we are a committee of the Greenway board,” Divel pointed out.

Greenway board chairman Cameron Fisher explained Friends of the Greenway will have input on how the money is used.

A draft of bylaws was reviewed during the meeting. Members decided to research greenways in communities of a comparable size before adopting bylaws and establishing giving levels. The board discussed offering student, family, individual, senior citizen, corporate and lifetime membership levels. Each would require a different donation amount.

Donaghy suggested offering advertising opportunities that can be tied to the corporate membership.

Fisher pointed out the existing Greenway banners for sponsors will be coming up for renewal soon. He said this could be combined with the corporate level membership. Fisher said the banners stay up for two years.

A membership meeting will be held once each year. Holding the meeting at the Raider Drive pavilion was suggested by Reynolds. Members would be welcome to attend the board meetings also.

A logo and T-shirt design were discussed, but final decisions will be made later.
