The Waterdogs were able to get in their make-up meet with the Ringgold (Ga.) TigerSharks Wednesday night, despite the threat of stormy weather in the area.
“We got it done and even had some exhibition at the end. We had a couple of swimmers that this was actually their first meet, so they got to swim exhibition after and they loved it,” Waterdogs coach Jocelyn Fennell commented.
The TigerSharks were able to defeat the Waterdogs 444-305, but Coach Fennell was still proud of her team’s improvement this go around.
“It was back and forth (during the races), either we were ahead or we were way behind,” Fennell explained. “It was a lot closer this time than the last time, so I’m proud of them — I’m always proud of them.”
Since this was a makeup meet, the rosters had to remain the same, with no substitutions.
“We had a lot of swimmers that weren’t here because it was a makeup meet, so the meet was frozen and we couldn’t really change anything,” Fennell said.
There were a few swimmers whose work ethic stood out to their coaches Wednesday evening.
“Savannah Churlik was able to pull ahead in her relay and her backstroke event looked good. Jesus Lopez always does really well. Brendon Ruckman did really well on his backstroke too,” Fennell stated.
Juliet Bryant and Davina Sharma led the team with 19 points each.
Tanya Sharma earned 17 points for the Waterdogs, with Ashley Bryant chipping in 12 points of her own.
Brian Lineberry led the boys with 11 points.
Tabitha Gill, Kyra Nipper, Daniel Gill and Ruckman rounded out the Waterdogs’ high point scoring with 10 points apiece.
Both the Waterdogs and the Cleveland Aqua Tigers will travel to Chattanooga’s Warner Park Friday and Saturday for the Chattanooga Area Swim League’s Bill Caulkins City Meet.
