Americorps Vista [Volunteers in Service to America] at Family Promise of Bradley County is holding an educational program to raise awareness in the community about poverty and homelessness. The event will be at the Cleveland YMCA on Tuesday nights at 6 p.m., through July 22.


— The Wednesday Matinee on July 2 will feature “Willie Wonka & the Chocolate Factory” (Rated G), in the Community Room at 2 p.m. Gametime after the movie will continue until 5:30 p.m.

— An Adult Book Club for ages 18 and older meets the third Wednesday of each month at 2 p.m. in the Carmichael House Conference Room. Call the library if you are interested in attending the Adult Book Club.

— A Father-Son Breakfast will be held in the Community Room July 26 from 10 to 11:15 a.m. Come prepared to build something wonderful. To sign up, stop by the Children’s Desk, call 472-2163 or go online.

— National Teen Lock-In will be held at the library from 7 p.m. on Aug. 1 until 7 a.m. on Aug. 2. This event is limited to 35 teens and a mandatory parent/teen meeting is required to attend. — Local author and “Chicken Soup for the Soul” contributor Delena Richeson will speak about her writing at the library’s “2nd Sunday’s@2p.m.,” July 13 in the Community Room. Her story, “A Divine Goodbye,” is one of 101 stories in the book about a range of spiritual experiences from miraculous connections, answered prayer, divine intervention and inexplicable healing to angels and messages from heaven — proving miracles happen every day to people from all walks of life.


— Join the Faith & Fitness Zumba class which meets each week at The Salvation Army on Tuesday at 5:30 p.m., and Thursday at 6 a.m. and noon. The licensed instructor is Regina Williams. Bring a friend and check out new songs and new dances that are easy and fun to learn. For more information, call 310-9557.

— TOPS (Take Off Pounds Sensibly) local chapter meets every Monday at Wesleyan Methodist Church on Peerless Road. Private weigh-ins are from 5 to 5:30 p.m.; meeting is from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. A TOPS category for children ages 7-18 is available. For more information, call 472-9628 or 593-4727.

The Gem Players will have continue to audition for the first production of the 2014/2015 season on Monday at 7 p.m. at the historic Gem Theater in Etowah. The season opens with Ron Osborne's new comedy, “Welcome Back to Ivy Gap.” The cast calls for five women, ages 40-60 years of age, and one male, age 40-60 years of age.
