Margaret Martin Wehunt, 86, of Cleveland, passed away Thursday, June 12, 2014, at Vanderbilt University Medical Center.

She was born Jan.9, 1928, and was a native of Warren County.

She received her bachelor’s and MS degrees from the University of Tennessee, where she was a member of Phi Eta Tau, P.E. honorary sorority and Sigma Kappa social sorority.

She began her teaching career at Bradley County High School and then moved to Polk County High School and Copper Basin High School. She also served as supervisor of instruction in Polk County. She was also a teacher and supervisor in Hampton, Va., and a teacher at Kingston Junior High School.

She was a communicant of St. Luke’s Episcopal Church, where she served as president of ECW and held other offices in the women’s group. She also served on the Altar Guild.

She was the daughter of the late George F. Martin and Wavie Cooley Martin. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Harry B. Wehunt Jr.; brothers: Phillip Arnold Martin, G. Fred Martin and Robert D. Martin Sr., and a nephew, Mark A. Martin.

Survivors include her sisters-in-law: Kathleen W. Martin, Mildred S. Martin and Jimmy W. Martin; five nephews; two nieces; and several great-nieces and great-nephews.

A reception will be held Friday, June 20, 2014, from noon to 1 p.m. in the Parrish Hall of St. Luke’s Episcopal Church, followed by a memorial service at 1 p.m. in the church sanctuary with Deacon Art Bass presiding. Inurnment will follow in St. Luke’s Memorial Garden.
