James (“Corn”) Allen Dunn, 72, a resident of Cleveland, ascended into heaven to reside with his Heavenly Father on Wednesday, June 11, 2014.

He retired from Bowater Corporation after 19 years. Prior to his employment at Bowater, he was employed with Magic Chef for 22 years.

In his retirement, he basically “took up residence” and spent a significant amount of his free time at Lowe’s Hardware store, and helping his friends and family.

He loved spending time with his family and spent countless hours taking care of his grandchildren.

He was a member of Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church since 1990, where he served in many capacities, including chairman of the Deacon Board. He was totally devoted to the maintenance and growth of each department within his church, and he spent endless hours doing all he could to serve the members of his church.

Prior to joining Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church, he was a member and chairman of the Deacon Board of Mount Eagle Missionary Baptist Church in Charleston.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas and Thursia Dunn; three brothers: Melvin Dunn, Thomas Dunn Jr., Franklin Eugene Dunn Sr.; and a mother-in-law, Nellie Upton.

Survivors include his precious and devoted wife of 44 years, Beverly Yvonne Dunn; two daughters: Tara (Mark) Pollard of Cleveland, and Traci (Charles) Fant of Cleveland; six grandchildren: James Ryan Fant, Mikayla Horton, Josiah Pollard, Samuel Fant, Solomon Fant and Janelle Pollard; two sisters: Betty Dunn of Cleveland and Sylvia (Wyman) Lewis of Cumming, Ga.; one brother, Ronald E. Dunn of Charleston; sisters-in-law: Josephine Wilkerson of Madisonville, and Brenda (Thomas) Hardy of Loudon; brothers-in-law, the Rev. David (Katherine) Upton and Kenneth Upton of Knoxville, and the Rev. Jerry (Janice) Upton of Lenoir City; a special niece, Pam Upton; Tina Ash; a special friend who was with him at the end, John Hill; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and many, many special friends.

The funeral will be held today, June 15, 2014, at 4 p.m. at Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church, with Pastor Alfred B. Johnson Sr. officiating and the Rev. Grant Harris, eulogist. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens.

The family will receive friends today prior to the service, from 2:30 to 4 p.m. at the church.

M.D. Dotson & Sons Funeral Home in Cleveland is in charge of the arrangements.
