Betty Lou Stewart Lumpkin, of Ooltewah, was taken home by God on Thursday, June 5, 2014, to be his special angel.

She was born in Anniston, Ala. She became a 52-year resident of Chattanooga along with her surviving husband of 60 years, Roy “Pete” Lumpkin Jr.

She attended Auburn University and received a degree from the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga in secondary education and a master’s degree from Middle Tennessee State University in aerospace education. She served more than 40 years in the Hamilton County school system.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by her mother, Mabel A. Ogburn; son, John D. Lumpkin; grandchildren: Chad H. Lumpkin, Sean D. Lumpkin, Jenna K. Lumpkin and Josh K. Lumpkin; and cousins, Martha Akers and Lamar Pace.

A memorial service honoring Betty’s Christian walk will be held on Tuesday, June 10, 2014, at 7 p.m. at Hickory Valley Christian Church, 6605 Shallowford Rd., Chattanooga, TN, 37421.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests a gift to Hickory Valley Christian Church or to Mountain View Christian Church, 9118 Snow Hill Road, Ooltewah, TN, 37363.
