James L. Smith, 72, a resident of Birchwood and formerly of Ooltewah, entered heaven to be with his Lord and Savior on Wednesday, June 4, 2014, after an extended illness.
He was the son of the late Ethel Lee Smith and Joe D. Smith. two brothers: David and Lloyd Smith, also preceded him in death.
He worked with Jackson Manufacturing with more than 31 years of service. He enjoyed fishing and hunting but most of all he loved being involved with his church, Burdette Baptist Church in Meigs County where he was a longtime member.
Survivors include his wife, Betty Smith; his stepchildren: Donna Blankenship, Karen Morrison and her husband, Hobert, and Stanley Mayton, all of Birchwood; grandchildren: Dusty Rymer and his wife, Shannon, Tina Judd and her husband, Jeff, Alicia McCallie and her fiancée, Rob Berger, Travis Morrison and Stanley Mayton; great-granddaughter, Whitley Judd; brother, Bill Smith and his wife, Linda; and his sisters: Hazel Miller of Ooltewah and Betty Oldham of Cleveland; and several nieces and nephews.
The Remembrance of Life service will be held Saturday, June 7, 2014, at 1 p.m. from Burdette Baptist Church with the Revs. James Staton and David Evans officiating.
Interment will follow in the McInturf Cemetery with Dusty Rymer, Stanley Mayton, Stanley M. Mayton, Travis Morrison, Jeff Judd and Rob Berger serving as pallbearers.
He will be at the church on Saturday from noon until the 1 p.m. service time for viewing.
The family will receive friends from 4 until 8 p.m. today at the North Ocoee Chapel of Jim Rush Funeral Homes.
