Jacob R. McCracken, 88, of Union Grove, Ala., died Sunday, May 25, 2014, at his residence.
He was born Thursday, May 13, 1926, in Cleveland, the son of William A. and Nellie E. McCracken. He has called the Union Grove, Ala., area home for the past 45 years.
He was a member of the Baptist faith and also a member of the V.F.W., having honorably served his country in the United States Navy during World War II, the Korean War and the Vietnam War.
He is survived by a son, Ricky G. McCracken; three daughters and sons-in-law: Kay and Bill Standridge, Sue and Steve Love and Debbie Jordan; several grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; two brothers and sisters-in-law: Doyle A. and Billie McCracken and James J. and Jo Ann McCracken; four sisters and brothers-in-law: Ruth Thomp-son, Bonnie and Ken Mart, Faye Wagner and Amy Lou and Bill Coker; several nieces, nephews, other family members and many dear friends and neighbors.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Ellen Bunch McCracken; three sons: Paul, Robert "Bobby" and Danny McCracken; his parents, William and Nellie McCracken; and four brothers: Russell, Bobby, Ray and Paul McCracken.
A visitation was held on Tuesday night at the Arab Heritage Memorial Chapel in Arab, Ala.
A celebration of his life is planned for Thursday, May 29, 2014, at 2 p.m. in the chapel of Companion Funeral Home, located at 2419 Georgetown Road in Cleveland, with the Rev. Doyle McCracken and the Rev. James McCracken officiating.
Interment will follow in the Shiloh Baptist Church Cemetery in Ocoee, with the family serving as pallbearers. The service will conclude with full military honors.
The family will receive friends in the chapel on Thursday from noon until the 2 p.m. service time.
