NORMAN, Okla. — Tennessee scored one run after a rain delay, but the Lady Vols could not overcome a slow start, falling to Oklahoma 8-1 in Game 1 of the Norman Super Regional on Friday.

No. 10 seed Tennessee (45-11) scored its lone run in the top of the fourth after a two-hour, 37-minute rain delay. No. 7 seed Oklahoma scored single runs in the first, second, fourth and fifth before adding four tallies in the sixth inning.

Friday's game, which ended at 12:30 a.m. eastern time, was a rematch of the 2013 NCAA Championship series captured by the Sooners.

Oklahoma (48-10) struck first with one run in the bottom of the first. With runners on first and second and two outs, Georgia Casey hit an RBI single through the left side, plating Destinee Martinez to give OU a 1-0 lead. Ellen Renfroe closed the door on the inning when she sent Whitney Ellis down swinging in the next at-bat.

OU added another run in the second inning after Callie Parsons hit a leadoff double and two batters later Erin Miller plated her with a sac fly to center field.

The game went into a lightning delay in the bottom of the third with two OU runners on and two outs. Rain followed and delay the game until play resumed at 10:45 p.m.

Tennessee came out of the rain delay strong. With two runners aboard in the OU third, Renfroe induced a lineout to short. In the top of the third, Annie Aldrete hit a one-out double to the wall in right center, Melissa Davin followed with a bloop single to right center and Lexi Overstreet clubbed an RBI single off the top of the right field wall to score Aldrete and pull Tennessee to within 2-1.

Oklahoma responded in the bottom of the fourth with one run to push its lead to 3-1. Two errors and a walk loaded the bases with one out for Lauren Chamberlain who hit an RBI single to center field. Martinez was out on the play after a base running mistake.

The Sooners opened the bottom of the fifth with a solo homer to center field by Brittany Williams to stretch their lead to 4-1.

Oklahoma added four more runs in the bottom of the sixth to seal the win, 8-1.

The same two teams started to play Saturday evening, but a rain storm once again interrupted the contest. The Lady Vols needed to defeat the hosts in the first game to force a third contest in the best-of-three series.
