NASHVILLE (AP) — The Tennessee Department of Education has reversed its decision to delay the release of students’ assessment scores.

The Tennessean reports that the department released scores from the Tennessee Comprehensive Assessment Program on Friday after experts signed off on the validity and accuracy of the results seven days earlier than anticipated.

The release of the scores comes after the department received criticism when it told Tennessee’s 140 school districts Tuesday that TCAP scores wouldn’t be ready in time to go on final report cards for many of them.

A spokeswoman says waivers will still be honored for districts that had asked to be exempt from a state requirement that the scores account for 15 to 25 percent of students’ final grades.

Districts can relinquish waivers now that results are available.
