Vernon Phillips became the first individual with a disability from Life Bridges to gain employment with a Bradley County government agency. Supportive Employment supervisor Allen Ferrell said, “In the 40-plus years that Life Bridges has been in existence, we have never had a person served employed by a governmental agency. This is an exciting new chapter both for Life Bridges and local government.” The Bradley County Sheriff’s Office has set the standard for equality by hiring Phillips. Sheriff Jim Ruth and staff have partnered with and given a warm welcome to Phillips. Life Bridges Executive Director Diana Jackson commented, “We want to thank the Bradley County Sheriff’s office and Jim Ruth for their partnership. We hope that this is the first of many Life Bridge’s Persons Served to be employed by our local governmental entities.”
