The Aldersgate Garden Club met on April 25 at the home of hostess Billie Blair, with eight members in attendance. Sheryl Gash gave the devotion from Psalms 23, followed by prayer and the Pledge of Allegiance.

Jackie Westfield, president, presided over the meeting. The secretary’s and financial reports were omitted.

Billie Blair, Kay Cox, Cynthia Humes, Regenia Piersaul, Margenia McKissic, Lelia Ware, Charlotte Scott and Westfield attended the annual TFGC Convention in Chattanooga. Blair gave a report of the highlights of the convention.

Westfield discussed the Garden Expo that was held April 12 and 13 at Camp Jordan in East Ridge. Kay Cox, Westfield, and Lelia Ware helped man the District III Garden Club booth. Members were reminded of the Vision of Beauty calendar orders which are due in June and used as a fundraiser for TFGC scholarships. The upcoming District III Standard Flower Show to be held July 10-11 in Dayton was discussed. Aldersgate will participate in the flower show.

After the refreshments, Blair led a garden tour of her yard. She began on the patio and continued around the various flowerbeds in her yard. She emphasized that the size of your yard doesn’t matter — you can make it pretty and enjoyable with shrubs, trees and various blooming flowers.

In just about every area of the yard, you could find some type of seating arrangement that would allow you to enjoy the beauty of the earth or just sit, relax and meditate on your own. She used lots of containers incorporated in old, bottomless chairs and window panes. She showed the members that the yard can become a beautiful sanctuary at a nominal cost, by looking at odds and ends you already have on hand.

Thanks was given to the hostess by Charlotte Timberlake. Others in attendance were Kay Cox, Dorothy Keith, Charlotte Scott and Lelia Ware.
