Summer is officially here with school out for summer break. Make sure that you have signed up to join all the activities offered at your public library.

The kickoff of our summer reading programs begins June 7, with the huge Fizz, Boom Read! Party beginning at noon.

Enjoy hot dogs, games, animals, face painting, bouncy house and much more as families get ready to begin this summer reading adventure.

Teens kickoff, ages 13 to 17, is June 14 at the After Hours Event from 7 until 11 p.m.

The Scholastic Book Fair begins May 27 and continues through June 3. We are all excited about our upcoming Book Fair. An amazing selection of books is headed our way.

At the Book Fair you will find the latest and finest titles for kids, as well as a few books of interest to parents.

The Book Fair is a great way to get everyone excited about reading, and keep them reading throughout the summer.

This year we are happy to have been able to meet a few friends from the library in San Ignacio, Belize. They are lacking in resources and we would like your help to show kindness to their children and teens.

We ask that you consider giving an extra dollar when you make a purchase and that dollar will be used to buy “Books 4 Belize.” You can view a brief video at http://www.scholastic.com/bookfairs/family highlighting the big dreams that can be realized through family reading.

Movie Night @ the Library, Tuesday, will show “12 Years a Slave” in the Community Room at 6:30 p.m.

Come and see this Best Picture 2014 Oscar movie that tells the true story of Solomon Northup, an African-American freeman who, in 1841, was snatched off the streets of Washington and sold into slavery. This movie is rated R.

Family Reading Night will also be held Tuesday in the Children’s Library where the first 10 attendees will receive free books. Enjoy an evening of reading and story times with shaved ice for a treat.

The “2nd Sundays @ 2” program, June 8, will be “Elements of Growing Herbs” with UT Extension Agent Robin Ramsey. This program will give you the lowdown on growing and maintaining herbs in your garden. Join us at 2 p.m. in the Community Room.

The library will be closed Monday in observance of Memorial Day.
