— The Scholastic Book Fair begins Tuesday and continues through June 3 at the Cleveland Bradley County Public Library. An amazing selection of books is headed our way. At the Book Fair you will find the latest and finest titles for kids, as well as a few books of interest to parents.

— Movie Night@the Library will show “12 Years A Slave” in the Community Room at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday. Come and see this Best Picture 2014 Oscar movie which tells the true story of Solomon Northup, an African-American freeman who, in 1841, was snatched off the streets of Washington, and sold into slavery. This movie is rated R.

— Family Reading Night will also be held Tuesday in the Children’s Library where the first 10 attendees will receive free books. Enjoy an evening of reading and story times with shaved ice for a treat.

— Sign up for a Summer Reading Program now. Fun for the whole family begins June 7 and continues through July 26. There are three programs; children, teens and adults. Every program encourages reading and fun programs throughout the summer. Children’s activities begin with a huge Fizz, Boom Read! party beginning at noon on June 7 to 5 p.m. Teens and adults have their own programs and sign-ups are available online on the library’s website or at the library. A list of all the activities is on our website. Teens kick-off, ages 13 to 17, is June 14 at the After Hours Event from 7 until 11 p.m.

— “2nd Sundays @ 2” program, June 8, will be “Elements of Growing Herbs” with UT Extension Agent Robin Ramsey. This program will give you the lowdown on growing and maintaining herbs in your garden. Join us at 2 p.m. in the Community Room.

— An Adult Book Club for ages 18 and older meets the third Wednesday of each month at 2 p.m. in the Carmichael House Conference Room. Call the library if you are interested in attending the Adult Book Club.

AT Salvation Army:

— Character Building Class providing an after-school program for school-age children meets each Wednesday at 5:30 p.m., at The Salvation Army, 437 Inman St. Children also receive a nutritious snack.

— Learn new quilting techniques and make new friends in the free “Undercover” quilting class.The class will meet each Tuesday at 6 p.m. at The Salvation Army, 437 Inman St. For more information on these programs, call 308-3467.


— Join the Faith & Fitness Zumba class which meets each week at The Salvation Army on Tuesday at 5:30 p.m., Thursday at 6 a.m. and Thursday at noon. The licensed instructor is Regina Williams. Bring a friend and check out new songs and new dances that are easy and fun to learn. For more information, call 310-9557.

— Zumba will begin at the library each Tuesday and Thursday morning at 8:10 a.m., continuing until May 29. This class will be limited to

25, and reservations are required. Contact the library at 472-2163 or stop by the Non-Fiction Desk to reserve your spot.

— TOPS (Take Off Pounds Sensibly) local chapter meets every Monday at Wesleyan Methodist Church on Peerless Road. Private weigh-ins are from 5 to 5:30 p.m.; meeting is from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. A TOPS category for children ages 7-18 is available. For more information, call 472-9628 or 593-4727.
