The nice warm spring weather brought out a large crowd who attended the Annual Polk County Ramp Tramp Festival on April 26.

Attendees enjoyed a meal of ramps while great bluegrass and gospel music was played.

During the festival certain attendees were recognized. Dalilah Howard was the youngest in attendance. The oldest attendee for the second year was 92-year-old Ina Cloud Kagel from Cleveland.

The largest family and the ones coming the furthest to attend the Ramp Festival was the McClendon/Potter family from Gulf Port, Miss.

Approximately 800 attended this year’s Festival with approximately $4,500 being raised for the Polk County 4-H Camp (Camp McCroy).

The Polk County 4-H Clubs appreciate all who dug, prepared, cooked, served or helped in any way. A special thanks goes to the band members from the Playing on the Planet, The Mis-Fits, Fredona Bluegrass and Reliance who volunteered their time to play for the Ramp Festival crowd.

Another thanks goes to the many businesses that donated door prizes, product or monetary donations to help off-set the cost of the festival!

If you would like to be a part of the 2015 Polk County Ramp Festival the next Ramp tramp meeting will be May 29 at Camp McCroy at 6 p.m. Please contact the Polk County Extension Office at 338-4503 for more information.

Many volunteers are needed for digging, preparing and serving the famous Ramp Lunch. It’s a great way to meet others while enjoying a long-time tradition.
