The Charleston MoJo of the Tri State Adult Baseball League finally got the monkey off their back by beating there pesky cross-county rival the Cleveland A's for the first time since the MoJo were established in 2013. This win was also the MoJo's first of the season.
Colby Dills went 3-3 at the plate, helping the MoJo to a 6-4 victory over the A's on Sunday April 27th in Charleston.
Dills doubled in the first inning and singled in the third and fifth innings.
Nick Clerc had an impressive outing against the A's lineup in his win. A's managed just two hits off of Clerc, who allowed no earned runs, walked three and struck out four during his four innings of work.
Elijah Haynie was the starting pitcher for the MoJo, he allowed four runs, only one of which was earned in three innings, didn’t allow a hit, walked seven and struck out five.
Walker of the A's ended up on the wrong side of the pitching decision, charged with the loss. He allowed six runs in five innings, walked three and struck out seven.
In the top of the first, MoJo grabbed the early lead, 3-0. A double by Chase Moreland, scoring Elijah Haynie started the inning off. The scoreboard lit up again for MoJo when Moreland scored on an RBI double by Colby and Dills scored on an RBI single by Shane Millsaps.
MoJo added to the lead in the top of the second with Josh Hindman scoring from second on a Elijah Haynie single. The A's scored one run of its own in the second on a walk by Jerry Weaver.
The MoJo went up for good in the top of the fifth, Moreland stole second and advanced to third where Jeremiah Dills hit Moreland in on a fielder’s choice, Josh Walker sacrifice bunted in Euri Pujols for the final run of the day.
The Charleston MoJo will take on the Chattanooga Orioles this Sunday at 1:30 p.m. in Charleston. They will also play a doubleheader against the Boynton Braves in Charleston May 18th, beginning at 1:30 p.m. Admission is free come out have some fun and enjoy some competitive baseball.
