Perfect weather and a full field of golfers greeted the morning Saturday for the 10th annual Cleveland Invitational Golf Tournament at Cleveland Country Club.

This year the tournament is running on schedule as opposed to 2013 when more than six inches of rain postponed the tournament until June. Getting the links in shape was no easy task, however, after a winter full of snow and broken tree limbs has kept the grounds staff at CCC hopping.

Leading the Championship A Flight is former Walker Valley High School teammates Cody Godfrey and Hunter Vest, who recently wrapped up a stellar college career at Lee University. The pair carded 3-under-par 69s to lead the pack.

Joe Markham and Matt Hadden sit in second after rounds of 71. Reese Scobey is alone in third at even-par 72.

Last year’s champion Caleb Roberson is not in the field this time around. Roberson decided to turn pro after his winning 12-under 132 broke the tournament record by four strokes.

Former champions Jerod Baldwin, John Maupin, Brandon Cissom and Chris Schmidt are in the 2014 field.

Baldwin currently sits in a two-way gross score tie for fourth in the Championship A Flight beside Taylor Lewis. Cissom is tid for seventh in the same flight with Nick Parker and Titus Osbourne.

Maupin (5-over-par 77) is looking to battle his way out of a six-way knot for first in the Championship B Flight and Schmidt (8-over-par 80) is tied for first along with three others in the First Flight.

Davis Moss, Jason Swallows and Lee Hamilton share the top spot in the Second Flight with a scores 84.

Jim Brett and Pat Marcrom lead the Seniors Division with 73 followed by Mitch Hufstetter (74), Coy Mabry (77), John Underwood (79) and Mike Granato (80).

The Stableford scoring ranks have Davis Moss and Lee Hamilton tied for first with 26 gross, Gene Jennings in second with 24 gross and Conner and fiver others tied for fifth with 23 gross.

The final round teed off this morning with a new championship to be crowned this afternoon.
