Walter Howard Crane, 70, a resident of Cleveland, passed away Friday, April 18, 2014.

He was the son of the late Dorothy Fisher Crane and George H. Crane. His sister, Georgia Thompson, also preceded him in death.

He was a Vietnam War veteran serving in the U.S. Marine Corp. He received his master’s degree and was retired from the U. S. Forestry Service with more than 20 years serving as a silviculturalist, a tree scientist.

He loved classical music, including the works of Beethoven. He was a competitive runner, and he ran in the Boston Marathon twice. He was an avid reader and he enjoyed classic movies and movie stars, including Humphrey Bogart and Sophia Loren. He loved the outdoors, including walking and hunting.

Survivors include his daughter, Sarah Crane; his sons: Patrick Crane, Pastor Jesse Crane and his wife, Meghan, all of Cleveland; his granddaughter, Sophia Crane; his grandsons: Andrew, Nicholas and Maxwell Crane; his sisters: Priscilla Swanson and her husband, Richard, of Chicago, Ill., Dorothy “Dee Dee” Stima and her husband, Frank, of Washington state; and several nieces and nephews.

The Remembrance of Life service will be held Wednesday, April 23, 2014, at 11 a.m. from the North Ocoee Chapel of Jim Rush Funeral Homes with Pastor Jesse Crane officiating.

A graveside service and interment will follow at 12:30 p.m. from the U. S. National Cemetery in Chattanooga with family and friends serving as pallbearers. Military honors will be given.

The family will receive friends from 5 until 7 this evening at the funeral home.
