Ball leads TWC to AAC title, Bulldogs qualify for NAIA national tournament

ACWORTH, Ga. — With a team score of 906, Tennessee Wesleyan captured the Appalachian Athletic Conference Championship at Governor's Towne Club by 15 strokes over second-place Union earlier this week.

After a 301 in the opening round, TWC fired the low round of the tournament with a 1-over par 289 on the second day to take the lead. In the last round of the competition, TWC's 316 was three strokes better than Union's 319 as the Bulldogs pulled away for the win.

Former Polk County High School standout Evan Ball was the winner of the individual competition with a 4-over 220. The freshman fired rounds of 75-70-75 to claim the individual low-medalist honors.

Teammate Josh Wheeler was second with a 224. Reinhardt's Connor Edwards was third (226), while Milligan's Simon Treeby was fourth (227) and SCAD-Atlanta's Gavin Taylor and Reinhardt's Kameron Williams were fifth (228).

Travis Rodgers, who tied for seventh with a 229, and Zack Hester, who tied for 20th with a 236, rounded out the Bulldog team score of 906 for the 15-stroke victory. Another former Polk County standout, junior Keoni Vidrine was the fifth member of the TWC squad, shooting an 80-76-82 to tie for 25th place with a 238 total.

TWC’s Mike Poe was named the AAC's Coach of the Year. Deven Broadaway of Truett-McConnell earned AAC Player of the Year after having the lowest total score in all seven rounds of AAC play this year (four rounds in the regular season and the three-round postseason tournament). Bryan was named the AAC Champion of Character team.

The NAIA National Champi-onship event will be held May 13-16 in Daytona Beach, Fla., at the LPGA International course.
