Dinner hours will be 6 to 8 p.m., according to Katie Rinaudo, one of the class project’s student planners.
Lee University’s Science and Math Center building is located on the corner of Ocoee Street and Billy Graham Avenue.
The fundraiser is being held in conjunction with Lee University’s Great Strides Fun Run and 5K event which will be held Saturday. Participating runners will be allowed to pick up their race packets during the dinner as well, Rinaudo said.
Lee graduate students Kendra Ballard, Denyse Cruz, Lauren Hunter, Golden Madume, Leanna Martin, Kris Wood and Rinaudo attend a nonprofit fundraising and board development class taught by Matt Ryerson, president and CEO of United Way of Bradley County Inc.
“The fundraiser is part of an assignment, but it has become much more than that,” Rinaudo explained.
The students are working to raise money for the CF Foundation through proceeds from the pasta dinner. All proceeds will go to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation where nearly 90 cents of every dollar of Foundation revenue goes directly to research, medical and education programs.
Cystic fibrosis is a genetic chronic disease that affects the lungs and digestive system of about 30,000 children and adults in the United States and about 70,000 worldwide. The predicted median age of survival for a person with CF is in the early 40s.
Leigh Ellington, development director of the East Tennessee chapter of the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, spoke at the students’ class in January.
“Getting to hear from Leigh was a wonderful opportunity,” student Leanna Martin said. “We got to learn more about the struggles of a child with cystic fibrosis and how the foundation has really made amazing progress in improving their life expectancy and quality. It was inspiring.”
Class project coordinators stress the pasta dinner is open to the entire Cleveland and Bradley County community.
“... Come support a great organization while enjoying some delicious food and loading up on carbs before the big race,” Rinaudo urged.
Tickets are $10 per person and include all-you-can-eat pasta, breadsticks, salad and dessert. Attendees can take their food to go or enjoy a sit-down meal.
Event sponsors include Olive Garden, Fazolis, Sodexo, and Emma B’s Cakes. Local artist Christian Mann will provide live music at the event.
